I came across a great blog post detailing the Top 10 UNethical Psychology Experiments in modern history. It features one of my favourite examples, Little Albert, who I have blogged about in a previous post.
This list includes animal studies as well as human studies, a point to keep in mind given that we still treat animals terribly, though we often overlook their suffering.
It also features the Milgram experiment, a favourite among ethicists, and of particular interest to anyone who is curious about such topics as: the banality of evil; the authority of science; human obedience; or the psychological capabilities many of us have (though mistakenly think we don’t) for committing serious harms to our fellow humans.
The holidays are upon us. If you find yourself at an awkward cocktail party in the coming weeks, the experiments in the Top 10 list will make for good conversation!
Let me know (via comment) if you have examples of other experiments that could have made the list.
